Booker’s Rerturns With More Reserves

The James B Beam Distilling Co has launched Booker’s The Reserves 2025.

The 2025 batch, the second installment, tells the story of barrels first used to age Booker’s 30th Anniversary release, then shipped to Jalisco where the Camarena family filled them with El Tesoro’s 85th Anniversary tequila. Finally, they were returned to Clermont, Kentucky, where Freddie Noe, Beam Family 8th Generation Master Distiller, finished a hand-selected batch of Booker’s inside them.

This is the very first time across the entire Beam portfolio that a product is finished in tequila barrels. At 123.3 proof the bourbon is aged exactly eight years, ten months and eleven days.

"Welcome to the second batch of The Reserves: a celebration of my Granddaddy Booker's legacy. In many ways, it's the same Booker's you know and love. Always uncut and unfiltered," said Freddie Noe, Beam Family 8th Generation Master Distiller. "But in other ways, The Reserves is something new, inspired by my granddaddy's boundless curiosity and relentless pursuit of flavor.

"You see, he was never not exploring how to make even better bourbon," Noe added. "He always had an experiment on the go. Either spending hours around the kitchen table pondering 'what if we did X or Y….' Or locking himself away at the distillery to chew on a question he needed to get to the bottom of. He’d come home eager to share the fruits of his tinkering with friends and family. Not just for us to enjoy, but to see if his experiments had paid off, or get inspiration for what he could try next time. Needless to say, we were all more than happy to be his guinea pigs. His creativity showed me how much more is possible with the whiskey we all know and love. I'm proud to carry his spirit forward and hope each release gives you a new appreciation for flavor, just as Booker intended."

Booker's The Reserves launched last year as the first innovation to come from Booker’s Bourbon since the 30th Anniversary launch. It is is an annual, limited-release series by Freddie, to commemorate his grandaddy, 6th Generation Master Distiller Booker Noe, and his contributions to the bourbon world.

Booker’s The Reserves 2025 is currently available for $129.99.

Four Roses Distillery has released its 2025 Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon. This marks the 18th edition in the annual series, featuring a blend of three bourbon recipes and four different batches, bottled at barrel strength.

Bottled at 109 proof, the expression features four hand-selected batches aged 13 and 19 years. Chosen from Four Roses' 10 distinct bourbon recipes, this year's limited edition blend is composed of a 13-year-old bourbon from the OBSV recipe, a 13-year-old OBSK, a 13-year-old OESV, and a 19-year-old OESV.

“Year after year, we look to create a unique expression that highlights the best of what our ten recipes can offer,” said Brent Elliott, Four Roses Master Distiller. “When blending this year’s release, I was drawn to the 13-year-old V batches that showcase pronounced delicate fruit and sweet barrel tones. Although these barrels can really shine on their own, the OBSK brought in a complexity that I think people will really enjoy. The addition of the 19-year-old OBSV also adds another layer of depth and aged character that rounds out the blend beautifully.

This year, Four Roses will release approximately 16,854 bottles of its 2025 Limited Edition Small Batch at a suggested retail price of $249.

I.W. Harper Celebrates 150 Years With Rare Release

Stitzel-Weller Distillery has introduced its rarest release in I.W. Harper’s 150-year history, I.W. Harper 34-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.Distilled in 1989 and matured for over three decades at the historic Kentucky distillery, the expression was blended from four hand-selected barrels, preserved and bottled at cask strength (126 proof).“I held onto this whiskey knowing exactly how special it was,” said Nicole Austin, Diageo’s Director of American Whiskey Liquid Development and Capabilities. “These barrels were marked for I.W. Harper all those years ago, and I’ve been waiting for the right moment to do something truly meaningful with them. This release is the rarest in the brand’s history—a liquid that’s been carefully stewarded for 34 years. As someone who has spent my career honoring the past while helping shape what American whiskey can be, this project has been incredibly personal. It’s a way to spotlight I.W. Harper’s legacy through a lens of true rarity and reverence.”Crafted from just four legacy barrels laid down in 1989, this expression was launched in collaboration with Colman Domingo, two-time Oscar nominated actor, director and philanthropist, as a "reflection of enduring style and an intentional celebration of identity, individuality, and artistic expression."Only 5 bottles will be sold (out of only 11 total in existence), exclusively consigned via global auction at Sotheby’s in New York, with proceeds donated to Native Son, a platform created to inspire, empower and amplify the visibility of Black queer men.Founded by Isaac Wolfe Bernheim, I.W. Harper has long had a strong connection Black culture in America. According to Flaviar, Bernheim believed Lincoln freed the slaves to allow them to create their own destiny. He also employed many African-Americans. Continuing that mission, proceeds from the auction will benefit Native Son’s mission.“As someone who cares deeply about legacy and representation, this release feels personal,” said Colman Domingo. “As a Black queer man, I know how vital visibility, support, and community are. Choosing Native Son as the charity partner was intentional—it reflects the same values we’re honoring through the whiskey: legacy, cultural expression, and creating space to be seen and celebrated. I.W. Harper 34-Year-Old isn’t just about rarity; it’s about storytelling that honors both past and future.”The bottle was developed through that lens, including the couture-inspired wrist piece to the silk scarf by Brooklyn-based creative Michelle Cadore.“These remarkable bottles take center stage – distilled in 1989, they mark a special moment in American whiskey history,” said Zev Glesta, Spirits Specialist, AVP, at Sotheby’s. “Exceptionally well-aged, bottled at cask strength, and five of only 11 in existence, it’s the kind of release collectors dream about. What makes it even more special is that the proceeds will go directly to Native Son, a cause close to our hearts. We’re proud to be part of something so thoughtfully curated – not just celebrating an incredible whiskey, but also giving back in a meaningful way.”

Frey Ranch Goes To Grains

Frey Ranch Distillery recently announced the launch of its Five Grain Single Barrel Bourbon, the first-ever release from the distillery that features all five of the grains distilled together – corn, wheat, barley, rye, and oat - that Whiskey Farmer Colby Frey grows exclusively on his farm. With his farming acumen, Colby plants and harvest grains that are specifically destined to become whiskey. “Oats are notoriously difficult to distill, but (Master Distiller) Russell Wedlake and I love a challenge," said Frey Ranch Distillery Co-Founder/Whiskey Farmer Colby Frey. "Oat is 60 percent hulls by volume and low on starch, which is problematic for a whiskey maker, as the hulls plug up the stills and the low starch means a lower yield per barrel. For this release, we have less than 350 bottles in total that are available for purchase both online and in the Tasting Room, so these are definitely a get ‘em while they’re hot commodity.”The mash bill for Frey Ranch Five Grain Bourbon features 60% corn, 10% wheat, 10% rye, 10% malted barley and 10% oat. Two barrels were bottled for this initial single barrel release. At 130.24 proof, Barrel #3016 was aged for 6 years, 2 months, and 1½ days. Aged for 6 years, 2 months and 2 ½ days, Barrel #3011 packs a heavyweight punch with a cask strength proof of 133.22. 186 bottles of Barrel #3016 are available for purchase online at Shop.FreyRanch.com. 156 bottles of Barrel #3011 are available for purchase exclusively at the Frey Ranch Tasting Room.Frey Ranch Five Grain Single Barrel Bourbon Barrel #3016 and Frey Ranch Five Grain Single Barrel BourbonBarrel #3011 are available for $89.00 per bottle.

Bib & Tucker has brewed up something special with its latest release, Gold Roast Bourbon, a 6-year Tennessee bourbo finished with whole roasted Arabica coffee beans.Crafted using coffee beans from Muletown Coffee Roasters, a Tennessee-based purveyor of fine coffee, the expression begins with Bib & Tucker's  6-year bourbon. Buffalo Trace Introduces Taylor's Distiller’s Council

Buffalo Trace Distillery introduces Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Distiller’s Council. Crafted using equipment and based on techniques originally invented by Taylor, this 100-proof bottling stands as the closest modern interpretation of the bourbons produced under his leadership at O.F.C Distillery (now Buffalo Trace) during the 19th century. The inspiration for this modern recreation traces back to 1996, when a group of bourbon experts and retired George T. Stagg Distillery distillers convened at Buffalo Trace in their pursuit to create the world’s best whiskey. As they sampled more than 30 whiskeys across a range of ages, mash bills and proofs, one voice cut through the room with a thought: “Well, we don’t make whiskey the way we used to.” This led to the Distiller's Council unpacking the way that whiskey was made when they first started their careers. That meeting, until now known by bourbon insiders as the “Distiller’s Council”, resulted in a re-discovery of E.H. Taylor’s pioneering techniques. This led to the revival of Taylor’s sour mashing process – patent pending by Buffalo Trace – and, combined with the modern methods of Buffalo Trace’s distillation team. The production process remains nearly identical to that of the 1880s using both grains in his mashbill and his fermentation process.“Colonel Taylor’s unwavering commitment to quality and innovation has helped shape every decision at our Distillery since he set our standards in 1870,” said Harlen Wheatley, Master Distiller, Buffalo Trace Distillery. “His enduring legacy left a profound impact on everyone present on that fateful day in 1996. As many of them are no longer with us, we hope they are enjoying this angel’s share with the Colonel himself – watching proudly as we carry his vision forward.”Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. purchased the O.F.C. Distillery in 1869 and ushered in a new era of innovation. From state-of-the-art grain equipment to copper fermentation tanks and the first steam-heated barrel warehouses – still in use at Buffalo Trace today – Taylor’s vision revolutionized bourbon production. His advocacy also led to the landmark Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897, cementing his legacy as a champion of quality and integrity. His visionary spirit continues to guide Buffalo Trace more than a century later.“Colonel E.H. Taylor didn’t just shape a distillery – he helped shape the entire bourbon industry. That’s why he’s known as the Father of Modern Bourbon,” said Andrew Duncan, Global Brand Director at Buffalo Trace Distillery. “From championing the Bottled-in-Bond Act to modernizing production standards, many of his innovations have stood the test of time and are in use to this day. Always of Topmost Class, he set the bar for integrity, innovation and craftsmanship. In that spirit, we are proud to revive this faithful interpretation of his original recipe, crafted with the same standards of quality and spirit of innovation he so fiercely advocated.”Bottled in a vintage-style, Grecian glass decanter modeled after one featured in an 1950s-era Old Taylor “Original Recipe” Bourbon advertisement, this special bottling is the 14th release to join the portfolio alongside expressions including Small Batch, Single Barrel, Rye, Barrel Proof Rye, Warehouse C Tornado Surviving Bourbon and Four Grain, among others.Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Distiller’s Council is available in limited quantities for $1,499.99.
